Corlang — Privacy Policy

Corlang is built to be private by design. It has no account, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party tracking of any kind. This policy explains, plainly, what that means.

The short version

Corlang never sends your learning data anywhere. Android's own backup may copy it to your Google Drive so it comes back when you reinstall, which is described under Backups below and is yours to switch off. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal information — because we do not have an account system or any server that stores your data.

What Corlang stores, and where

All of the following is stored only on your device, in the app's private storage:

• Your profile: the name you enter at setup (any name or nickname you like, it is never verified) and which word forms the course uses for you.
• Your progress: streak, days completed, current level, per-day task checks.
• Your vocabulary review data (the spaced-repetition schedule for each word).
• Your quiz and mock-exam attempts and can-do self-checks.
• Your settings: daily goal, reminder time, and voice/haptics preferences.

We never upload any of this. There is no Corlang user database.

When Corlang uses the network

Corlang works fully offline for learning. There is exactly one case in which it sends anything you have written off your device:

1. Optional AI practice (Premium). If you use the AI tutor or AI writing feedback, the text you submit is sent through Corlang's managed endpoint to the AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a reply. What is sent: the text you type, the name from your profile (so the tutor can address you; any nickname works), and, for subscribers, your Google Play subscription token so the server can confirm an active subscription and apply the daily fair-use limit. No progress or review data is ever attached. If you never use the AI feature, no such request is ever made.

What that endpoint keeps. Not your messages: it passes them on, returns the reply, and stores none of the content. What it does keep is what it needs to stop abuse and bound costs, which is a daily message counter held against your IP address and against your subscription token, both expiring after two days, and a yes-or-no record of whether your subscription is active, cached for at most six hours. Nothing there is used to build a profile of you, and none of it is linked to your learning data, which never leaves your phone at all.

Nothing else about your use of the app is transmitted. Corlang does not phone home. The version you install from Google Play never checks for updates either, because the Play Store delivers them; the developer's own directly-installed builds do have a manual "Check for updates" button in Settings, which fetches a version file from the project's public GitHub repository when you tap it, and sends nothing about you when it does.

The website

If you ask for a test invite at https://corlang.app/, the email address you type is stored so we can send you a test link, along with whether you said Android or iPhone, the date, and the two-letter country code your connection reports. The phone answer is kept so the Android addresses can be sent a Play test link and the iPhone ones are only contacted if an iPhone version is ever built. It is used for that and nothing else: no newsletter, no analytics profile, and it is never passed to anyone. Ask at the address below and it is deleted.

If you ask for a language at https://corlang.app/requests/, the language, the level you need and your email address are stored together, plus the date and country code, so we can tell you when that course exists. That page is not linked from anywhere and is not indexed: you reach it from the app or because somebody sent it to you. Same terms as above, deleted on request.

The app itself never asks for your address. The link in Profile opens that page in your browser, and nothing is sent from the app.

The site itself sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads no third-party scripts or fonts.

Speech

Pronunciation playback uses your device's built-in Android text-to-speech service. Corlang has no microphone permission, does not record audio, and has no speech-recognition feature.

Backups

There are two, and only one of them is ours.

Corlang's own export is manual and local. When you export a backup, Corlang writes a file to a location you pick; when you import, it reads a file you select. It never happens on its own and the file goes nowhere except where you put it.

Android's backup is automatic, and it is the reason your progress returns after a reinstall. Corlang allows Android's standard Auto Backup, which copies the app's private data, your lessons, your review schedule and your profile, to your own Google Drive. It is a platform feature: Google runs it, it is tied to your Google account, it does not count against your Drive storage, and we cannot see it or reach it. It is what makes a new phone pick up where the old one left off, which matters here because Corlang has no account to restore from instead.

If you would rather it did not happen, turn it off in Android: Settings, Google, Backup, or per app under your Google account's backup settings. Deleting the app's backup from Drive is done the same way. After that, an uninstall really is the end of that data, ours included.

Permissions

Corlang requests only these, and each is used for one thing:

• Internet — the optional AI feature described above, and nothing else.
• Notifications — your daily study reminder, if you turn it on.
• Run at startup — so that reminder survives a reboot. It schedules a reminder and does nothing else.
• Vibration — haptic feedback on answers, which you can switch off in Settings.
• Billing — Google Play in-app purchases, handled entirely by Google Play.

Corlang requests no microphone, camera, contacts, location, or storage permission.

Children

Corlang is a general-audience language-learning tool and is not directed at children. Regardless, it collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated and the revised policy published at https://corlang.app/privacy/.
